Pastor John West

Returning to the Pure and Simple Gospel

In a time when many voices compete for attention, Pastor John’s heart is to return the church to the Word of God—to the pure, simple gospel of Jesus Christ. Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. It is not earned, improved, or replaced, but received through surrender and trust in Him.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.” ~Ephesians 2:8

This gospel brings people into true faith, not religion, ideology, denomination or philosophy; into freedom, not bondage; and into a living relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord.

Making Disciples Who Live in Freedom

Jesus’ command to make disciples remains at the heart of the church today. Pastor John believes discipleship is about walking closely with Christ—being shaped by His Word, led by His Spirit, and transformed by His truth.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations…” ~ Matthew 28:19

Disciples are called to live in the freedom Christ has secured, growing in obedience, love, and faith as sons and daughters of the Most High God.

“If the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” ~John 8:36

Loving the City Through Compassion and Service

True faith is not only proclaimed—it is lived. Pastor John holds a strong conviction that the church must care for the poor, the hurting, and the overlooked in our city and nation.  The love of Christ compels us to serve with humility, generosity, and compassion.

“Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble…” ~ James 1:27

“They desired only that we should remember the poor, the very thing which I was also eager to do.” ~Galatians 2:10

As the church serves, gives, and walks alongside those in need, the gospel becomes visible—demonstrating God’s heart for the city of Edmonton and beyond.

A Call to Respond

This vision is not meant to be observed from a distance, but lived out together. The gospel calls each of us to respond—to turn to Christ in faith, to grow as His disciples, and to participate in His work of redemption in our city and nation.

“Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” ~Hebrews 3:15

Whether you are seeking truth, longing for freedom, desiring deeper faith, or looking to serve others, the invitation of Jesus remains the same:

“Come, follow Me.”~ Matthew 4:19

At Grace Christian Church, we believe that God wants to restore, renew, refresh, and revive His Church through the power of His Word and the work of His Spirit. As we continue to preach the gospel, make disciples, and care for the poor, our prayer is that many would encounter Jesus Christ and walk in the new life He offers.

At the center of our church is a simple and powerful calling: to exalt Jesus Christ, proclaim His gospel, and live out His love in the city of Edmonton. Pastor John West carries a deep burden for both the church, the city and the nation—one rooted in Scripture and shaped by the heart of Christ.

The gospel is not merely a message to be heard, but the power of God that brings salvation, freedom, and new life. Pastor John’s vision is clear: to preach the gospel without compromise, make disciples who walk in truth, and care for the poor and broken among us.

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes.” ~Romans 1:16
